Significance of Prophet Abraham's Sacrifice

Prophet Abraham is the key figure for abrahamic religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Despite the difference of opinion on principles within Abrahamic faiths, one common belief about Prophet Abraham (AS) remains paramount. Prophet Abraham (AS) established the pillar of monotheist religion in the definition; there is only one sustainer, mighty and merciful God.

The life of Prophet Abraham (AS) filled with full of struggle, difficulties, and hatred due to the reason that Prophet Abraham (AS) gave a message to believe in one powerful and merciful God. To fast forward and look at one of the important events took place in the Prophet Abraham (AS)’s life where he was asked to give the sacrifice for his son. According to Jewish, Isaac (AS) the small son chose for sacrificing in front of God as mentioned in the Old Testament, Genesis 22:1-2, R.S.V. that "After these things,God tested Abraham, and said to him, ‘Abraham!’ And he said, ‘Here am I.’ He said, ‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

As per Muslims, Ismail (AS) selected for sacrificing in front of God as mentioned in the Quran 37:101 that "And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think. He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast." Irrespective of what difference of opinion among Abrahamic religions are, the point we are making is the significance of an event that took place was so holy that the details narrated throughout history in Old Testament and Quran. In essence, the sacrifice of Abraham is not only significant for Muslim, but for Jews and Christians as well.

There are many faiths throughout the world, which claims to be unholy in their perspective as it involves the sacrificing millions of animals in the world. This misconception goes on the Abrahamic religions such as Jewish and Christians as well and sometimes, this topic becomes hot in the media due to ignorance and making judgments without knowing the history. Prophet Abraham established an example which allows us to step back and reflect on questions such as what do we do to please God. Do we sacrifice even an atomic weight of desire for pleasing God?. Did we decide to change ourselves and stay away from sins? or simply eat, greet and leave thinking aside.
